"Golden Week" is a series of public holidays in early May in Japan.
This event is holiday orienteering at its best in the best terrain in Japan.
The event centre for all 4 days is the same: situated at "Jumbo Sports Village" (cheap Japanese style accommodation and camping) right at the foot of the famous Mt Fuji.
Day 1 is a sprint while the other days are middle or long distance style.
Chasing start on Day 4.
Start times will be earlyish so there will be plenty of time for sightseeing in this famous and beautiful area.

Terrain description:

The terrain lies between 500-1000m on the south slopes of Mt Fuji.
It could be described as Continental style with many road and paths but complex contours.
It varies from quite flat to quite steep but never as steep as normal Japanese terrain (eg WOC 2005 maps).
The forest is mostly Japanese cedar (a conifer) plantations that feed the paper mills in nearby Fuji City.
Mostly fast open forest but some areas of thicker vegetation that can require extra care and create interesting route choice problems.

Other activities, nature, hiking, etc:

Mt Fuji itself is still snow bound so unless you bring crampons and ice axe you will have to give that a miss.
But there a plenty of smaller mountains around from which you get great views of a snow capped Mt Fuji.
And there are many other local scenic attractions.
Or you can hop on the bullet train in Fuji City and 1 hour later you are in the world's biggest metropolis: Tokyo.
Or 90 minutes in the other direction gets you to the jewel of Japan:
Kyoto with its myriad temples and shrines.
